Is Pornography a Catalyst of Sexual Violence? (At Male Matters)

In his article about whether pornography has something to do with crimes like rapes and sexual harassment, Steve Chapman claims that “we can be confident from the experience of recent years that it certainly doesn’t cause such crimes”. If we agree with that, it means to accept pornography as a part of our lives that does not cause any problems and is not a question of concern because it does not cause any harm at all. However, we can argue that exactly pornography is the cause for braking relationships, creating addiction to sex and encouraging perversion in all kinds towards women, men and sometimes children. Stating that “pornographic Web sites provide a harmless way for potential predators to satisfy those desires” is wrong because exactly the so called “adult movies” are the thing that promote sex in great doses and spread the myth that women enjoy forceful sex and may serve as a “how-to-do-it” book for sex crimes, such as rapes and child pornography, which is a serious abuse. May be pornography is not the exact reason for the decreased rape in US, but it is a reason for many other things which may lead to these crimes. It can promote adultery, prostitution and promiscuous behavior and if that is not enough to ban pornography, then what is?
