Child Porn is NOT a Free Speech!

In his article John Whitehead presents a story, which is not only about child molesters and how they should be treated according to the law, but also about the moral principle of how we should judge the people who dare to behave in such a rude and disgusting way towards children. The Williams case touched one serious question which concerns the “First Amendment’s guarantee of free speech” according to which “United States Constitution protects the right to freedom of expression from government interference”. However, as it is said in the article, we should put some boundaries to that freedom and distinguish between what should be allowed to happen in the society and how to punish those, who dare to harass others with their pervert desires. Whitehead says correctly that “pandering child pornography is tantamount to shouting fire by inflaming those who prey on the young. Someone is bound to get hurt”. This means that tolerating absolute freedom of actions can lead to serious consequences, concerning the ones we love. That’s why putting limits to ways of self expressions will help us protect children from something far dangerous than just seeing a pornographic web site. What is more, as Whitehead states, “we should not allow ourselves to be hoodwinked into believing that the Williams case has anything to do with the First Amendment”; on the contrary, we should act radically towards people like this if we want to live in a society, free from the perversion and abnormal behaviour of people, who are victims of their own pathetic imagination.
